Introduction
In the 21st century, many people fail to appreciate the long struggle of women to gain full citizenship through voter participation. While 1910-1920 are the years of focused efforts, women began to argue for the vote back to the days of the Early Republic and have continued to define their role in the political realm in recent elections. This website will examine the notable people and documents leading to the heightened tensions of the early 20th century, the years of confrontation, and then look at where women have taken their voting power.
This is not intended to be an exhaustive look at the struggle for the right of women to vote. It is meant to highlight key primary and secondary documents on the path to the franchise and provide activities to supplement and reinforce classroom instruction and discussion.
