The Fighting Years
After the late 19th century stagnation of the women's movement, NAWSA (National American Women's Suffrage Association) focused on a state by state campaign called "The Winning Plan". The concept was to gain female political power by voting in state and primary elections. However, only a handful of states in the west had embraced suffrage, leaving many to feel frustrated at the slow pace of rights. From this frustration comes more radical ideas from Alice Paul and the National Women's Party Suffragettes.
